Airfreight rates will remain high as we keep seeing huge demand growth against limited capacity
In ordinary times, about 45 to 50 % of air freight moves on belly holds (lower deck ULDs) of passenger flights, but from April 2020, 75 percent of this capacity disappeared due to Covid-19’s severe restrictions. Drastically reduced lift capacity pushed prices up in air freight services for goods between most of the international markets, especially with Europe. Nowadays, the passenger flights’ capacity has slightly improved with the roll-out of vaccinations but still down by 34% compared to pre-Covid levels but rates hardly show any significant decrease.
